Utah is a stunning state! Although my itinerary captures Arches National Park, there a lot many other places I wanted to see in Utah. The landscapes are so dramatic that it’s hard to believe they are natural formations. I was concerned about the glaring heat of May, but if you are in such a place as this, the excitement takes over everything else!
Walking into this World Heritage site left me in absolute amazement with history starting right at my face. With no paved roads, could I ever imagine building a home inside of a cliff almost 2,600 m high in altitude? Perhaps not! Sixty-five million years ago, a vast inland sea covered this entire region. Over time, sandstone, mud, shale and limestone were deposited. As the years passed, the rocks eroded and eventually became the cliff dwellings.
As soon as I saw it, it was a mixed bag of emotions for me – awe, excitement and a feeling of achievement. I recall a colleague asking me which is my ‘top of the wish list’ place to go in the US (and this is much before I moved and started living here) and I had said The Grand Canyon. Ever since I was a little girl, I had seen pictures of it, in the western movies with mule back riders looking for treasure, have been mesmerized ever since!
