There’s something about boats, in beautiful canal waters, with the setting sun casting an amber shadow over everything, making it magical. No wonder when people think of romantic Venice memories, melodious music fills their ears and there is a longing to go back. In Xochimilco, the experience was similar, yet very different with a touch of true Mexican madness.
As a child, I had always been curious to read about pyramids and their magnificent history and how the massive structures were built. They always held a certain mystique in my mind. And to find myself standing on top of one was nothing less than a dream!
I always wish Friday was not a working day and we could kick off the weekend sooner. But I am not quite ready to give up Sunday as well (I am greedy that way :P). Isn't a 3 day day weekend a reasonable wish? Even a half working day on Friday would be refreshing, but it’s unlikely my wish will ever come true. This one Friday evening I was working late, but my mind kept wandering away with glorious anticipation for the weekend.
I landed in Mexico City with mixed feelings. Firstly, it was the year when ‘Swine Flu’ had spread it’s wings (get the Wodehouse reference – pigs, wings), and then there were the stories of food poisoning, drug cartels and just random misgiving and hysteria created by some of my colleagues who had never even been there! But the minute I landed there, I knew all of those premonitions were going to be untrue. I fell in love with the people, the food, the vibrant culture and most of all the beautiful country, and how.
Banderas. It means flag. The colors are green, white and orange. What did I do with it? Drink it, of course!
My name is Lovya. I left home when I was 17, to study and pursue my dream of being an Engineer, which I am now! But my love for travel never parted with me and even as I grow older, I know there are places and adventures in the world which I have to see. It feeds my soul in a unique way. This blog is a means for me to share my travel stories and hear about your experiences.
