New York Diaries - The Cronut Craze

I love that I get to experience NYC much more than my own city of Boston. And what’s best, my sister hosts me there and takes me to these amazing places that I thought I absolutely must share. Starting this series today called the New York diaries to include places, restaurants and some fun things to do. Not expecting this one to be touristy checklist, but more of some epic experiences in the Big Apple and pure love for the city.
I am sure you have heard of the famous cronut, basically when a doughnut has a baby with a croissant, it’s called a cronut. It’s origin can be attributed to chef Dominique Ansel, who has this lovely little bakery in Soho. And the rumors are true, people start lining up by 8 am and it’s the first few who get the much-coveted cronut, and no one is allowed more than 2. They say it takes his team 3 days to build and they get sold out everyday within minutes. Three years since they introduced it, and the craze is still going strong, with new flavors every month.

No, I didn’t go there early morning because I had to go to work (sigh). But I rushed back in the evening to try out their other magical sweet little wonders. Even at 5 pm, there was a line inside the bakery and I waited almost 15 minutes for my turn, but it was definitely worth it!

The best sellers also include their cookie shots - a cup shaped cookie lined with chocolate and filled with milk and DKA, a soft and flaky yummy croissant. I tried the frozen smores– frozen marshmallow with a torched outer texture, filled with chocolate lined creamy ice cream - what a novelty and completely worth the wait.

Other things I tried was a blueberry tart, which was pretty nice and then a packet of Mini-Me lemon flavored meringues for home, which turned out so light and melt in the mouth that I wanted to immediately go back for more.

That’s the thing about NYC, there are hidden gems everywhere and even a lifetime of exploring them is not quite enough. With my sugar levels through the roof, the next best thing to do in the evening was to watch the bridges light up this beautiful city – a sight not to be missed.

More coming soon.

Love
